Latest news and stories relating to the Scottish Social Services Awards
It was with a heavy heart that I said goodbye to the Care Accolades a couple of years ago, so I'm really pleased to see the phoenix of the Scottish Social Services Awards emerge.
As the lead for the Workforce strand of the Vision and Strategy, I'm delighted that there are three awards focusing on valuing people who work in social work and social care and learning from good practice.
As you'll know, the SSSC launched our new Codes of Practice in November 2016. The Codes are fundamental to professionalism across the sector so it's great to have an award about Living The Codes. We'll be looking for examples of workers, employers, learning providers or anyone else who is bringing the SSSC Codes to life. If you are someone, or know someone, who is using the Codes to make a positive difference, please enter.
The Bright Spark award is for someone who's new to social services and is already making a difference, going the extra mile to support people who use services. This might be an apprentice who has joined the sector from school or at a later stage. It might be someone changing career and choosing social services, or who fell into it and loved it so much they stayed! You don't have to be young to be a bright spark - all entrants welcome.
Scotland is known across the world for the Enlightenment so it feels fitting to have an award for An Enlightened Approach. I keep hearing that challenging times generate innovative approaches, so this is your chance to prove it. When traditional ways of learning are too expensive or no longer working are you taking a fresh approach to learning and development? You could be an employer, a learning provider or an individual. You could be harnessing the digital world, or involving communities. The possibilities are endless.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the entries and already daunted by the prospect of judging. You can enter yourself as an individual, as a team, as an organisation or you can nominate someone else or an organisation. It's easy to do - just click here. Go on, you know you want to.....
